The Sarasota Film Festival attracts audiences from local, national and international markets. The Festival's mission is to present unique and quality cinema for the purpose of educating, stimulating and entertaining audiences. As a year round presenting arts organization we produce frequent independent and celebrity studded studio screenings and the annual film festival. With quality cinema, filmmaker symposiums, gala parties and educational opportunities the festival has positioned itself as one of the finest in the country.

The Sarasota Film Festival was founded in 1998 as a non-profit arts organization designed to offer a balanced program of foreign, domestic, independent and studio films that engage the commercial film industry and local audiences. In 1999, SFF’s first annual mini-festival included eight feature films, symposiums and a gala fundraiser.

In 2000, The Film Festival added documentary, animated, short & student films and the inaugural KIDSFEST program. Recognized as a driver for economic development and tourism in only its second year, festival organizers strengthened its impact in the community by utilizing the medium of film to advance media literacy and bring exposure to social service organizations.

Since then, SFF has grown in length (from three days to ten), attendance (from 2,300 attendees to over 45,000) and scope (from 10 screenings to hosting over 200 films and adding nationally-recognized education programs, dozens of special events, talkbacks and panels with some of the leading voices in film today). Beyond the Festival, SFF has expanded to include year-round activities like the free outdoor Moonlight Movies series in Sarasota, Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch and Venice; Monday Night Movies at the newly-restored Asolo Theater; Screenwriters' Circle; and more.
